Scams using the Microsoft name
Pop-ups or calls saying your computer is infected and telling you to call Microsoft support are a classic tech support scam. Microsoft says its genuine error and warning messages never include a phone number.
Account takeover scams want one thing: your password or a sign-in code. Everything else is decoration.

Genuine Microsoft email comes from addresses ending in @microsoft.com, @microsoftonline.com, @office.com, or a subdomain of those (for example something@mail.microsoft.com). An address on any other domain, even one containing "microsoft", is not Microsoft. Note that anyone can create a free personal mailbox at outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, msn.com. Those are customer accounts, not Microsoft staff.

A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam, but any message from one deserves suspicion.
What should I do if I clicked a link in a fake Microsoft message?
Do not enter anything else. If you typed a password, change it at microsoft.com straight away and turn on two-step sign-in. If you entered card or bank details, call your bank using the number on your card. Then report the message using the guide below.
