Can someone fake a An Post email?

Weak. anpost.com monitors forged email but does not block it. A message can display an @anpost.com address and still be fake.

Strict. Only the servers anpost.com lists may send its email, everything else fails.

DMARC is the rule a domain owner publishes telling mail servers what to do with email that pretends to come from them. The stronger it is, the more likely scammers switch to lookalike domains, which is why the next section matters.

Domain history

How long has anpost.com existed?

The Internet Archive first saved a copy of it on 21 November 2005. Scam domains are usually days or weeks old. A sender domain registered recently, pretending to be a company this established, is a strong warning sign.

Can receive email

We check misspellings, look-alike characters, and the An Post name combined with words like “delivery”, “parcel”, “tracking” across common domain endings. A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam: companies often register typos of their own name to protect customers. But you should never trust a message from one.

Know the pattern

Scams using the An Post name

Delivery scams work because almost everyone is expecting a parcel. Real tracking only lives on the courier's own website or app.

A small fee to release your parcel

A text or email says your parcel is on hold and asks for a small payment for redelivery or customs. The amount is tiny on purpose. The payment page is built to capture your card details.

Confirm your address

You are told a delivery failed because your address was incomplete and asked to confirm your details through a link.

Missed delivery card or call

A fake missed-delivery note or voicemail asks you to call a premium-rate number or visit a website to rebook.

Step by step

How to check a message that claims to be from An Post

  1. 1

Look at the actual sender address, not just the name. Tap or hover over the name to reveal it. It must end in @anpost.com, or a subdomain of one.

  2. 2

Do not use links or phone numbers from the message. Type anpost.com into your browser or open the official An Post app, and check your account there.

  3. 3

Slow down when you see urgency, small fees, gift cards, crypto, or requests for codes and passwords. Those are the levers every scam pulls.

  4. 4

Still unsure? Paste the sender address or link into the checker above.

Questions

An Post scam FAQ

What email address does An Post use?

Genuine An Post email comes from addresses ending in @anpost.com, or a subdomain of those (for example something@mail.anpost.com). An address on any other domain, even one containing "an post", is not An Post.

Can scammers fake an @anpost.com email address?

Weak. anpost.com monitors forged email but does not block it. A message can display an @anpost.com address and still be fake.

Are there websites pretending to be An Post?

On 14 October 2026 we checked 178 lookalike domain names and found 23 registered. 0 appear to be owned by An Post or a brand-protection service, 2 are parked or for sale, and 19 could not be linked to An Post while hosting a website or accepting email. A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam, but any message from one deserves suspicion.

What should I do if I clicked a link in a fake An Post message?

Do not enter anything else. If you typed a password, change it at anpost.com straight away and turn on two-step sign-in. If you entered card or bank details, call your bank using the number on your card. Then report the message using the guide below.
