DMARC is the rule a domain owner publishes telling mail servers what to do with email that pretends to come from them. The stronger it is, the more likely scammers switch to lookalike domains, which is why the next section matters.
Domain history

The Internet Archive first saved a copy of it on 6 December 2000. Scam domains are usually days or weeks old. A sender domain registered recently, pretending to be a company this established, is a strong warning sign.

We check misspellings, look-alike characters, and the India Post name combined with words like “delivery”, “parcel”, “tracking” across common domain endings. A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam: companies often register typos of their own name to protect customers. But you should never trust a message from one.

Scams using the India Post name
Texts saying an India Post parcel is held at the warehouse until you update your address through a link are a widely reported scam.
Delivery scams work because almost everyone is expecting a parcel. Real tracking only lives on the courier's own website or app.
A small fee to release your parcel
A text or email says your parcel is on hold and asks for a small payment for redelivery or customs. The amount is tiny on purpose. The payment page is built to capture your card details.
Confirm your address
You are told a delivery failed because your address was incomplete and asked to confirm your details through a link.
Missed delivery card or call
A fake missed-delivery note or voicemail asks you to call a premium-rate number or visit a website to rebook.

Step by step
How to check a message that claims to be from India Post
- 1
Look at the actual sender address, not just the name. Tap or hover over the name to reveal it. It must end in @indiapost.gov.in, or a subdomain of one.
- 2
Do not use links or phone numbers from the message. Type indiapost.gov.in into your browser or open the official India Post app, and check your account there.
- 3
Slow down when you see urgency, small fees, gift cards, crypto, or requests for codes and passwords. Those are the levers every scam pulls.
- 4
Still unsure? Paste the sender address or link into the checker above.
Questions
India Post scam FAQ
What email address does India Post use?
Genuine India Post email comes from addresses ending in @indiapost.gov.in, or a subdomain of those (for example something@mail.indiapost.gov.in). An address on any other domain, even one containing "india post", is not India Post.
Can scammers fake an @indiapost.gov.in email address?
Moderate. Forged @indiapost.gov.in email is sent to spam or junk rather than blocked outright. A fake can still reach your junk folder looking real.
Are there websites pretending to be India Post?
On 14 October 2026 we checked 201 lookalike domain names and found 14 registered. 0 appear to be owned by India Post or a brand-protection service, 3 are parked or for sale, and 11 could not be linked to India Post while hosting a website or accepting email. A registered lookalike is not proof of a scam, but any message from one deserves suspicion.
What should I do if I clicked a link in a fake India Post message?
Do not enter anything else. If you typed a password, change it at indiapost.gov.in straight away and turn on two-step sign-in. If you entered card or bank details, call your bank using the number on your card. Then report the message using the guide below.
